Quarterly meetings are open to all interested stakeholders in the Heart of the Continent region. Partners and HOCP steering committee help organize two day events, featuring updates, topical meetings, and usually a presentation.

The next quarterly meeting will be held in April 22-23, 2010 in Minneapolis, MN. More details will be posted soon.

Canoe the Heart of the Continent

In 2009, HOCP focused its efforts on the Canoe the Heart of the Continent Centennial Canoe voyage. Held in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of Superior National Forest and Quetico Provincial Park, a diverse team of paddlers took a 27-foot canoe from Atikokan to International Falls to Ely to Grand Marais to Thunder Bay. The journey, which included 60 different paddlers, covered nearly 350 miles over an 18-day period in July.

The expedition helped draw attention to the fact that the lakes, forests and communities of this beautiful cross-border region form an interconnected whole. The two week trip, with local celebrations in small towns along the way, highlighted the unique character of many of the communities that border the public lands.
