Geotourism Initiative Mid Term Meeting

(Participants will be those folks who attended the two-day training in February 2014 in Duluth.)

Locations:
Two locations. We start Thursday afternoon at Silver Bay High School, then move to Wolf Ridge for dinner and the remainder of the meetings.

William Kelley High School, Silver Bay:
Directions: Travel US Hwy 61 to the stoplight at Silver Bay. Turn inland (away from Lake Superior) at the stoplight. Follow the street (Outer Drive) until you reach the High School, which will be on your right in a few blocks. Watch for signage as to which door.

Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center:
Directions: Follow MN State Highway 61 to Lake County Road 6 in Little Marais (approximately 66 miles northeast of Duluth, MN, or 199 km SW of Thunder Bay, ON). You will see a brown sign marking the turn to Wolf Ridge. Turn west onto Lake County Road 6. Travel 4 miles to the Wolf Ridge driveway (Cranberry Road), signs on County 6 also indicate the turn onto Cranberry Road. Turn into the driveway and follow it 2.5 miles to the main campus on the top of the ridge. Please check in at the office when you arrive. Map and driving directions from Little Marais to Wolf Ridge. Lodging:
For Thursday evening, we’ll be housed in Wolf Ridge’s East Dormitory. Rooms include 3-4 bunk beds per room, with each room having 2 sinks, some basic storage, toilet and a shower. Wolf Ridge facilities provide accommodations often considered something between a summer camp and a college extension campus, with wi-fi. Cost is $50 per person. Participants bring their own bedding (sleeping bag / pillow / towel / toiletries). If you arrange your own lodging, Wolf Ridge suggests the AmericInn in Silver Bay, a 30 minute drive.

Meals:
Meals will be eaten together, with everyone pre-paying upon arrival. (bring cash or check to Wolf Ridge). See registration below.
• Thursday picnic style Lunch (build your own sandwich) at WK High School: $10.00
• Thursday Supper (Dining Hall): $12.00
• Thursday eve: snacks in the office fireplace room. Complimentary. BYOB for drinks (alcohol allowed but must remain in the office that evening)
• Friday Breakfast (Dining Hall): $8.00
• Friday Lunch (Dining Hall): $10.00
• Fyi: All four meals would total $40.00

Special dietary needs: when you register below, please indicate IN ADVANCE. Wolf Ridge can typically accommodate most needs except vegan, which they’re not able to do.

What to bring:

Costs Summary:

Timeline:

Thursday, June 26: We will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 26 at Silver Bay High School. The agenda includes review of nominations that have been received to date. We’ll work in small groups and make recommendations on which ones need more work and which ones are ready to go forward. A working lunch is included. At the end of the afternoon, we’ll adjourn to Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center for a 5:15 pm dinner, an evening of, a tour of WR, socializing, hiking, etc. Accommodations will be dorm-style.

Friday, June 27, we’ll have Breakfast at 7:30 am, then meetings continue to develop editorial content for the consumer-facing website, and make plans for next-steps after we launch. Lunch at 12:15, departing in the afternoon.
